Daniele De Rossi and Leandro Paredes were both sent off as Nuno’s men found acres of space throughout the 90 minutes, eventually winning through 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Elsewhere, Monaco kept their composure to down Spanish side Villareal 1-0 at the Stade Louis II while Celtic, who had thumped Hapoel 5-2 on home soil, were made to battle hard in Israel. Brendan Rogers’ men lost 2-0 but still advanced on aggregate.
