People have left flowers and tributes in London’s Parliament Square in memory of a British MP who died after being shot and stabbed.

Jo Cox, a opposition Labour politician, was attacked while getting ready to meet constituents near the English city of Leeds.

Cox was elected in last year’s general election and was married with two daughters.

Fellow lawmakers from several parties praised Cox as a rising star of politics.

Campaigning for next week’s referendum on Britain’s EU membership has been suspended following the attack.

Amateur video has emerged of what appears to be a man being detained after the murder.

West Yorkshire regional police say a 52-year-old man was arrested.
