It is a big year for the vaulters explained the winner:“For sure in the back of my mind I think of an Olympic medal, but this year I am thinking step by step and that helps me. I want to be healthy and the first big tournament is the European Championships. The Olympics seem a bit far away from now.
“More Greek success in the men’s event with Dimitris Patsoukakis finishing in third place.
Piotr Lisek finished second the Pole vaulted

Greece’s indoor world champion Kostas Filippidis took the victory and is gunning for a Rio medal but knows Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie will be tough to beat: “Lavillenie has shown what he is capable of, he is one of the best in the world. But when you compete in the Olympics you don’t think who will be first or second or who wins. You try to do your best, you try to win and I think everything is open.”
Euronews reporter in Athens is Ioannis Karagiorgas: “Greece is lucky to have some of the best pole vaulters in the world. Hundreds of Greeks and foreign fans had the opportunity to enjoy their performances up close”
