Turkey: female suicide bomber wounds 13 in Bursa

A female suicide bomber has blown herself up wounding 13 people in the Turkish city of Bursa.

The attack was near the Grand Mosque and happened following afternoon prayers.

Bursa, is Turkey’s fourth-largest city. It’s an industrial hub and while not a main tourist destination, it draws some foreign visitors with its Ottoman-era architecture.

In the aftermath police cordoned off the blast site by an entrance to the mosque.Dazed passersby were ushered out of surrounding streets as ambulances and forensics teams arrived. Many of the wounded had light injuries such as cuts from shattered windows.

Turkey has been hit by a series of suicide bombings this year, including two in its largest city Istanbul, blamed on ISIL and two in the capital Ankara which were claimed by a Kurdish militant group.

This attack came a day after the US warned American citizens in Turkey about credible terrorist threats to tourist areas.

No one has yet claimed responsibility.
