Peter Prevc took another step towards his first career overall title with a win on the slopes in Almaty.

The Slovenian made his intent clear with a huge first jump of 141 metres and followed it up with his second of 137.5 for a total score of 272.7 points. He was 18 points ahead of his nearest rival with his 12th victory of the season.

He now holds a 599-point lead and could make the title his own on Sunday if he finishes above Severin Freund. He would be the first Slovenian to hold the title since 1998.

Micheal Hayboeck was second with 254.7 points and could not respond to Prevc first jump. The Austrian had come to Almaty on the back of triple wins in Finland. It was his ninth podium finish of the season.

But his chances of challenging for the Crystal Globe are gone. His second place has taken him to third place in the overall standings.

Severin Freund passed a landmark with his third place making it a half century of podium finishes. The German will be disappointed he couldn’t shake off the challenge of Prevc.

The reigning World Champion is the only man who can now realistically stop the Slovenian from taking the coveted Crystal Globe.
