French Peugeot driver Stéphane Peterhansel has won the Dakar Rally for the 12th time.

He crossed the finish line on the 13th and final stage of this year’s event, at Rio Cuarto in Argentina.

It is Peterhansel’s sixth Dakar win at the wheel of a car, after victories in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2012 and 2013. He had previously finished first on a motorbike in 1991-1993, 1995, 1997, 1998.

For Peugeot, it is a first Dakar victory since 1990. The manufacturer made its return to the event in 2015 after a quarter of a century’s absence.
