Multiple award-winning rapper Nicki Minaj has been asked by Human Rights Foundation to cancel a Christmas concert in Luanda, Angola.

The event, on Saturday, December 19, is backed by telecommunications company managed by Isabel Dos Santos, daughter of Angolan president

The human rights group in a letter addressed to the singer on December 15, raised a series of human rights violations allegations in the country headed by president José Eduardo dos Santos since 1979.

The group warned Minaj: “the payment you are receiving from your Angolan sponsors is the result of government corruption and human rights violations.”

The letter signed by Human Rights Foundation president, Thor Halvorssen, ended by saying if Minaj performs at the concert, she will be in league “with people stealing educational resources and opportunity from young Angolans.”

Minaj was advised to instead advocate for the release of imprisoned rapper, Luaty Beirao, who has been in prison since June, along with 14 other activists who are on trial accused of preparing a coup.

Minaj is yet to comment but a day after the letter was written, she published a poster of the concert on her Instagram page calling on Angolans to be ready for her. The comments on that post show the range of opinions over the issue.
