Slovakia pipped Ukraine to second place in Group C of the Euro 2016 qualifiers after they beat Luxemburg 4-2 on the final day of action whilst their rivals lost against defending champions Spain.

Marek Hamsik scored twice while Adam Nemec and Robert Mak also hit the mark for Slovakia who held off a second half fightback by the hosts to win their place at next year’s finals in France.

They end the campaign second behind Spain while Ukraine will now look to the playoffs in order to reach the finals.

England, who were already assured of winning Group E ahead of Monday night’s game, brought their flawless qualifying campaign to the perfect end beating Lithuania 3-0.

Ross Barkley and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain added to a Giedrius Arlauskis own goal to make it ten wins out ten for the Three Lions.

They are the only team to go through qualifying with a perfect record.

Slovenia beat San Marino to end the campaign in third and with a playoff berth while Switzerland beat Estonia in stoppage time but had already wrapped up the Group’s runners-up spot.

Russia booked their spot in France next year thanks to a 2-0 win over Montenegro in their final Group G game in Moscow.

Oleg Kuzmin opened up the Russian account on 33 minutes while Aleksandr Kokorin sealed the deal four minutes later.

The win secured Russia the runners-up place behind Austria, who qualified for the finals last month but capped off their fine campaign with a 3-0 win at home to Liechtenstein.

Sweden beat Moldova 2-0 but will have to negotiate the playoffs after finishing third.
