Lorenzo on pole for San Marino GP

Spain’s Jorge Lorenzo held his nerve to take his 33rd MotoGP pole position ahead of Sunday’s race in San Marino.

The Movistar Yamaha rider, who is currently trailing teammate Valentino Rossi by 12 points in the overall standings, edged out fellow countryman Marc Marquez.

Rossi eventually had to settle for third place and this result sees him claim only his third front row start of the season as he looks to take back-to-back wins at his home grand prix.
