It was a team effort on the last day of the European fencing championships in Montreux, Switzerland.
Spearheaded by Olympic and individual European champion Elisa Di Francisca, Italy were crowned European team foil champions.
The Squadra Azzurra beat Russia 45-44 to win continental gold for a seventh year in a row.
Arianna Errigo delivered the gold-medal-winning strike to lift her teammates Martina Batini, Di Francisca and Valentina Vezzali to the top of the podium.
Italy had to settle for silver in the men’s sabre team event as Germany reigned supreme on the final day upgrading their bronze from last year’s championships in Kazan to the shiniest of medals this time around.
Max Hartung, Matyas Szabo, Benedikt Wagner and Richard Hubers edged the defending champions 45-44 in the final.
Wagner pipped former olympic and world champion Aldo Montana in the final contest to hand his team gold.
