More than 30 Russian Navy vessels have been taking part in drills in the Barents Sea.

The exercises are said to be testing readiness against any threats to Russia’s Arctic borders.

Thousands of troops are involved in nationwide exercises, ordered by President Vladimir Putin.

In Chechyna, Russia’s motorised brigade has been staging tactical drills.

It all amounts to one of the Kremlin’s biggest shows of force since ties with the West plunged to Cold War lows.

Meanwhile, more than a dozen US fighter jets have arrived in Estonia to take part in a month’s worth of joint training exercises with the country.

Three-hundred air force members have also touched down for the drills.
