Italy’s Elisa Di Francisca produced a stunning performance to clinch the women’s foil Grand Prix in Havana on Sunday.
The two time Olympic Champion looked in great shape and edged out Korea’s Hee Sook Jeon in the semi-finals before carrying her momentum into the showpiece match, en route to a convincing win over Inna Deriglazova.
The Russian, who claimed her first World Cup title in Hungary two years ago, got off to a strong start with 3 consecutive hits but it wasn’t to be as Di Francisca eventually found her range.
The Italian came from behind to secure an emphatic 15-5 win over her opponent, giving her a major boost ahead of the next foil event which gets underway in Shanghai on May 15.
