Indonesia has rejected an Australian proposal for a prisoner exchange and says two Australians convicted of drug trafficking will be executed within days.

Myuran Sukumaran, 33, and Andrew Chan, 31, have been transferred to the prison island of Nusakambangan, where the executions are scheduled to take place.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop proposed the exchange two days ago, a ministry spokesman said, but Bishop’s Indonesian counterpart said there was no legal framework in Indonesia that would allow a prisoner swap.

Nine other convicts, most of them foreigners, are also facing execution by firing squad.
