Weather conditions have slightly improved in Albania allowing damage assessment after widespread flooding. Over 5,000 hectares are still submerged with major losses to crops and livestock.

Villagers are calling for government compensation and better flood defences.

And in the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) countles villages remain flooded after record river levels.

Due to the floods, the water supply in several towns is not safe to drink and hospitals are preparing to receive people who might need help.

Heavy rain is sill falling in eastern parts of FYROM with some places receiveing over 80 litres per square metre since Saturday.
