Indonesian divers may have located the missing black box recorders alongside the fuselage from Air Asia Flight 8501.

The announcement came from the head of the search and rescue operation, who believes they are buried on the seabed underneath debris from the plane.

Searchers are hoping for calmer waters on Monday in order to retrieve the black box flight data recorders which would provide vital clues into why the plane went down.

However, the priority remains to retrieve the remaining victims. So far 48 bodies have been recovered.

The Airbus lost contact with air traffic control on December 28 and crashed in the Java Sea killing all 162 people on board.
