Visitors looked at portraits and posters of those who died or were taken hostage, while others stood quietly at the site.

At nearby Kfar Aza, mourners attended a ceremony as the Israeli flag was lowered. People sang together, while one woman was seen wiping away tears.

The ceremonies marked three years since Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.

This year's events are the first since all the hostages were returned or their remains recovered.

The assault triggered the war in Gaza, where more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza health officials.
