Large crowds gathered in Tehran as Iran began six days of funeral ceremonies for late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the US-Israeli conflict.

Thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran on Saturday as Iran began six days of funeral ceremonies for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Footage showed crowds surrounding Khamenei's coffin, with many people crying, praying and chanting slogans during the ceremony.

Some mourners held banners and portraits of Iran's new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

Iranian authorities announced a series of commemorative events following the death of Ali Khamenei, who was killed aged 86 on the first day of the US-Israeli war with Iran on 28 February.
