Clashes broke out between protesters and police in Southampton after the release of bodycam footage linked to the fatal stabbing of student Henry Nowak sparked public anger.

The protest was triggered by the release of police bodycam footage showing Nowak, who was fatally stabbed in December, being handcuffed by officers while critically injured. The footage prompted anger among some members of the public and drew hundreds of demonstrators to the city.

Participants carried signs bearing Nowak’s name and gathered near memorials dedicated to the student. The rally also attracted prominent far-right figures, including Tommy Robinson and UKIP leader Nick Tenconi, who addressed the crowd and criticised the police response to the case.

Police maintained a large presence throughout the demonstration as clashes broke out at several points during the event.
