Video. Fire at chemical plant in Russia’s Nizhnekamsk leaves three dead

Footage shows thick smoke rising over an industrial site in Nizhnekamsk, western Russia.

Three people were killed and 72 others injured in a fire at a chemical plant in the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk, Russia emergency services reported.

Chemical company Sibur, who owns the Nizhnekamskneftekhim plant, a preliminary cause of the incident was an equipment malfunction that triggered an explosion and subsequent fire.

The mayor of Nizhnekamsk said windows were blown out in a number of residential buildings nearby, and other property was also damaged as a result of the incident.

Nizhnekamskneftekhim is one of Europe’s largest petrochemical enterprises and is part of the Sibur company.
