Residents fled Beirut’s southern suburbs after Israeli strikes targeted Hezbollah positions, as tensions linked to the Iran conflict spread to Lebanon.

Scores of people fled Beirut’s southern suburbs early Monday after Israel launched a series of strikes in response to cross-border fire by Hezbollah.

Plumes of smoke rose over residential neighborhoods as families packed cars and left overnight.

Lebanese officials urged Hezbollah to avoid further escalation, warning of another damaging war.

The Israeli military issued evacuation notices for dozens of areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, advising civilians to move to open areas ahead of possible additional strikes.
