Video. Protesters urge reform as Argentina considers welfare emergency bill

Updated:

Activists from across Argentina gathered outside Congress on Wednesday, calling for urgent reforms to the country’s social welfare system amid growing concern.

As lawmakers debated an opposition-backed bill to declare a welfare emergency, demonstrators demanded better access to essential services like education, healthcare, and rehabilitation.

Supporters of the bill say current austerity measures under President Javier Milei have left vulnerable groups without support.

The legislation also proposes timely payments to service providers and faster access to public funds.

The president has already expressed his intention to veto the bill if it gains enough approval in Congress.
