Video. Deadly earthquake hits Tibet as rescuers continue to search

Updated:

On Tuesday 7 January, an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck an outlying district of the city of Shigatse in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

The epicentre was about 25 kilometres (15 miles) from the centre of the town, known in Chinese as Xigaze, which lies on a high-altitude plain.

Rescuers in the frigid Tibet region of western China continued their search for possible survivors and remaining victims of the deadly earthquake for a second straight day on Wednesday.
