Measuring 25-metres long, the flag was hoisted at Jakarta Aquarium Safari in the capital, the largest indoor facility in the country.
It took five divers to raise the flag which will remain in the water throughout the day.
The national holiday marks the day that the country gained independence from the colonial power, The Netherlands.
