Mexicans prepare for 'Day of the Dead'

Video. Mexicans prepare for 'Day of the Dead'

Updated:

People dressed as skeletons and in colourful costumes paraded in the streets of Mexico City.

Mexicans wore costumes and face paint on Sunday (October 22), disguising themselves as the iconic Mexican skeleton figure known as “La Catrina” or “Elegant Skull” and flooded the streets for a pre-Day of the Dead parade.

The occasion is a pre-Hispanic tradition in which families remember their dead via offerings, and celebrate the continuity of life.

The November 2 “Dia de Muertos” or All Souls’ Day interweaves Spanish influences with indigenous worship in South America.
