Athenians and tourists gather in Athens to release Christmas wishes on paper lanterns
On Christmas Eve, hundreds of Greeks gathered outside Athens City Hall to release paper lanterns and make wishes. The annual event in Kotzia Square, overseen by Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, celebrated the city’s spirit.

The world’s oldest-known Ten Commandments tablet sold on Wednesday (18 December) for $5 million (€4.8 million) at Sotheby’s, far surpassing expectations. The marble slab, previously used as a paving stone, will be donated to an Israeli institution.
