Germany and France prepare for a re-set in relations

It’s the fourth French President she is meeting as Chancellor.

Angela Merkel is the first EU leader Emmanuel Macron has visited since his inauguration on Sunday, as his two predecessors did as well.

His proposals to reform Europe are already being debated in Berlin and other member states.

But both Brussels and Berlin want to see him start reforming his own country first.

Will he manage to deliver at home while bringing France back to the forefront of European policy making?

Euronews’ correspondent Rudolf Herbert asked the EU policy expert, Daniel Gros.

The UK continues to block EU’s military plans in Africa

Lost in translation or something more? Less than one month before Brexit talks officially start, the UK is blocking EU plans on defence.

The EU wants to create a military unit which would be responsible for training missions in Somalia, Mali and Central African Republic.

For some countries such as Germany and France, this could be a first step towards an EU Military HQ.

The UK has long been opposed.

Later today, the EU Commission is going to publish its latest figures on the EU’s emergency relocation and resettlement schemes.
