Angela Merkel and François Hollande met yesterday on the island of Ventotene at a gathering hosted by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

From greater integration of European security to doubling the Juncker investment plan, plenty of ideas were put on the table.

With elections in France and Germany next year, and the future of the UK in the EU unsure, implementing ambitious European plans could be postponed. In an attempt to rekindle the European spirit, the three leaders met on the island of Ventotene where Altiero Spinelli wrote a manifesto that set the foundations for federalism in Europe.

Meanwhile, the famous Belgian harmonica player Toots Thielemans passed away at the age of 94. He is remembered as the Jazz Master.

And finally, Berlin unveiled a plaque honour of David Bowie this week as he spent two years or his life in the German capital and recorded three albums there.
