Athens wants to strike an agreement on stop gap financing that would last until September.

EU officials refuse to counter the possibility that the country could leave the single currency.

“Grexit is not his (Juncker’s) scenario, he has spent 3 years of his life as Eurogroup chief to ensure that Greece will not leave the eurozone, and that Greece will not be kicked-out of the eurozone, and now that the overall situation is calmer, there is no reason to consider such scenario,” said a Commission spokeswoman.

Syriza, led by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, won power in Greece last month on a promise to end austerity and lighten the country’s debt load.

But Germany, for one, has insisted that it must stick to commitments made under the previous government.
