Scientists on board the icebreaker Polarstern have been without supplies for two months.

The COVID-19 pandemic has halted progress on a major research project in the Arctic. The study is the largest ever undertaken in the area, with scientists hoping their findings will reveal vital information about global warming.

Hundreds of researchers from over 20 countries set sail last September from Norway on the icebreaker Polarstern, but the coronavirus crisis has left the team without supplies or crew relief for over two months.
