150-year-old craft from Madeira
The products of the luxury brand are entirely handmade by Madeiran women.
Madeiran country women have been making one of the finest forms of embroidery for hundreds of years. Today it is known as a luxury brand. The techniques used in this meticulous craft have been passed down from generation to generation and today it is as authentic as it was 150 years ago.
Living it went behind the scenes and visited a workshop in Funchal along with two artisans in the Madeiran countryside. The ladies, who learnt their skills from their grandmothers and mothers, will attend the Homo Faber exhibition in Venice this September to present their artisanal skills.
