As expected, Paul Thomas Anderson’s 'One Battle After Another' and Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' go head-to-head with the most BAFTA nominations, while 'I Swear', 'Pillion' and 'The Ballad of Wallis Island' lead the charge for best British productions. Here's the breakdown of this year's nominations.
The 2026 BAFTA nominations have been unveiled, and One Battle After Another and Sinners dominate, as I Swear, Pillion and The Ballad of Wallis Island lead the charge for the best British films.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s politically charged serio-comedy One Battle After Another got a total of 14 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director and several acting nods – including Leading Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actor (Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn) and Leading Actress (Chase Infiniti, who was bafflingly snubbed at the Oscar nominations last week).
The film, which topped our favourite movies of 2025 and got 13 Oscar nominations, goes head-to-head at the BAFTAs with Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror Sinners, which made Academy history with a record-breaking 16 Oscar noms last week.
Sinners has been BAFTA nominated for many of the same categories as One Battle After Another and has a total of 13 nods – the highest for any film by a Black director in BAFTA history.
The nominations were somewhat predictable following the Golden Globes and the Oscar noms, with BAFTA cementing the fact that awards season is a two-way race between both films.

Chloé Zhao’s Shakespearian drama Hamnet scored 11 nominations and has become BAFTA's most nominated film ever by a female director. It ties with Josh Safdie’s ping pong drama Marty Supreme, also with 11 nominations. They are followed by Joachim Trier’s family drama Sentimental Value and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which both got eight. Surprisingly, Frankenstein did not yield a Best Film or a Best Director nod.
Other surprises included no love for Oscar nominated talent like Amy Madigan (Weapons) or Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent); nominations at last for Jesse Plemons and Yorgos Lanthimos (Bugonia), and the aforementioned Chase Infinity; and two nominations for Wicked: For Good, which was shut out at the Oscars.
Meanwhile, Kirk Jones’ I Swear, Harry Lighton’s Pillion and the stunning comedy The Ballad of Wallis Island by director James Griffiths represent this year's best British films.
As for Best Film not in the English Language, it is a repeat of this year’s Oscar nominations for Best International Feature Film, with The Secret Agent, It Was Just An Accident, Sentimental Value, Sirātand The Voice of Hind Rajab all selected.
The only category that was announced ahead of the official line-up today was the Rising Star award, with nominees including Archie Madekwe (Lurker), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Miles Caton (Sinners), Posy Sterling (Lollipop), and Robert Aramayo (I Swear).
The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 22 February at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
