Věra Jourová, former European Commissioner for Justice, believes this "judicial schism" is "very unpleasant" and "decreasing" the trust of Polish people in their justice system and independent judiciary.
Jourová insists the country's Constitutional Tribunal is "not legally established" at this moment, therefore she backs the measures taken by Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk as they try to "correct things".
Poland's judicial conflict reached a turning point this past Friday when the country's President Karol Nawrocki forcefully entered the Constitutional Tribunal to demand the return of its suspended conservative chief judge, as Donald Tusk's government seated new judges and riot police clashed with protesters.
According to Jourová, the crisis is 'weakening Poland' in a 'very unfortunate' time.
