Democratic Party strategist and consultant Keith Brannum speaks to Euronews.
Brannum calls the 2026 midterms "far more nail-biting" than Republicans would have wanted, with many more potential wins for Democratic candidates than expected when first moving into 2026. In January, it was thought that the US Senate was "out of reach" for the Democrats, though expectations have since shifted.
Whilst pollsters have historically overstated Democratic victories, Brannum believes many of the districts up for election in the upcoming midterms are a legitimate "coin-toss" under Trump's Republicans, with the electoral map showing massive swings since the Harris-Walz loss to Trump in 2024.
If the Democratic Party wins in the upcoming votes, they "will certainly" hold the US President Donald Trump accountable, using "oversight and investigation" if majorities are won in the US House and Senate.
