The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon "in response to Hezbollah’s attempted attack yesterday against IDF troops operating in the security zone."

Three people were killed in Israeli strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon overnight, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

One person was killed and 15 were injured following a strike on the town of Ramadiyah in the southern Tyre district, the ministry said, adding that two others were killed in the Nabatieh region.

Strikes hit five locations across Nabatieh, Tyre and the eastern region of Bekaa in total, per the ministry.

In a statement on Saturday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon "in response to Hezbollah’s attempted attack yesterday against IDF troops operating in the security zone, during which a drone was launched toward troops."

The attacks hit "weapons storage facilities" used by the Iran-backed militant group, the Israeli military said, while also sharing video footage appearing to show one of the strikes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that military operations "to thwart terrorism" were continuing with "full force" in Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank.

Israel and Hezbollah have been locked in conflict since March, when the group launched rocket attacks against Israel in retaliation to the killing of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In response, Israel renewed strikes on Lebanon and launched a ground invasion into the country.
