Video showed tears in the giant inflatable structure that now covers the historic Pont Neuf bridge in the heart of the French capital.

The artwork, one of the most ambitious public art projects seen in Paris in decades, was due to open to visitors on June 6. JR’s team said technical experts are assessing the damage and investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.

The installation stretches 120 metres across the bridge and rises 18 metres high. Designed to resemble a giant cave, it consists of 80 fabric arches filled with air. Organisers said a new opening date will be announced once the assessment and any necessary repairs have been completed.
