German army training in underground

Video. German Armed Forces special unit trains in Berlin underground

Updated:

A total of 35 soldiers in combat gear and armed with assault rifles are rehearsing in the middle of the night a defence scenario at the Jungfernheide underground and suburban railway station in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

The German Guard Battalion trains for several days to defend Berlin. Just in case. Name of the mock war: ‘Bollwerk Bärlin III’

On this night, the soldiers are practising a scenario that the commander describes as ‘very realistic’ in a possible defence situation and which meets the special requirements of close-quarters and urban combat in a metropolis like Berlin.

A subway train that transports German soldiers is attacked by enemy forces shortly before Jungfernheide station and forcibly brought to a halt.

The situation is unclear at first; the advancing soldiers must defend themselves against the attackers and evacuate their injured comrades from the narrow shaft. It is the first ever Bundeswehr exercise in an underground station.
