The identity of the 48 teams taking part at the 2026 FIFA World Cup are beginning to emerge, with four teams already qualifying for next year’s tournament.

Japan were the first nation outside of the hosts Canada, United States, and Mexico to secure their place. Iran qualified from the Asian confederation.

New Zealand breezed through as expected, while South American side Argentina will return to defend their 2022 winners title.
