Judo Returns To Linz: Day 1 of the 2025 Upper Austria Grand Prix

The 2025 Upper Austria Grand Prix kicked off in Linz with over 400 athletes competing. Abiba Abuzhakynova, Yamato Fukuda, Oi Iroha, Ronald Lima, and Seija Ballhaus claimed gold medals in their respective categories, with thrilling victories and exciting moments for fans at the Tips Arena.

Welcome to Upper Austria for its 2025 Judo Grand Prix in stunning Linz for the next leg of the World Judo Tour which saw over 400 athletes competing!

In the -48kg, Abiba ABUZHAKYNOVA bested Japan’s YOSHINO Sachiyo to claim her second grand prix gold medal!

IJF Secretary General, Dr Lisa ALLAN awarded the medals.

In the -60kg, FUKUDA Yamato took home another gold medal. An impressive result for the 19 year old!

IJF Head Referee Director Mr Florin Daniel LASCAU awarded the medals.

Tokyo Olympic Champion Distria KRASNIQI faced Cadet and Junior World Champion OI Iroha at -52kg. And in her first ever Grand Prix, the Japanese youngster claimed gold in style. Shocking one of the veterans of the category.

IJF Education & Coaching Director Mr Mohammed MERIDJA awarded the medals.

In the -66kg, Ronald LIMA held his way to his first Grand Prix gold medal! An impressive feat.

Upper Austria Governor Mr Thomas STELZER awarded the medals.

I’m enjoying the medal, savouring the moment, and making the most of the city, it’s already my third time here in Austria. After this I’ll head back home and start training for the next competitions.

At -57kg, Seija BALLHAUS claimed her first Grand Prix gold with an impressive strangle. A huge result for the German athlete!
