Americans head to the polls today to elect a new president as the world waits with bated breath.

After months of star-studded, headline-grabbing rallies, focus has shifted to the ballot boxes, where US citizens will decide on their preferred candidate.

The aftermath of this year's election is significant in light of the consequences of Trump's prior defeat. Specifically, the storming of the Capitol and accusations of election fraud.

If Harris wins the support of the Electoral College, experts are predicting an onslaught of legal challenges. The peaceful transition of power now hangs in the balance, with claims of election fraud already rampant.

As the clock ticks on this year's campaign, Euronews brings you some highlights in pictures.
