Video. Famine reaches critical levels in Gaza

Updated:

In the Gaza Strip, more than 1.8 million people, or 86% of the population, are facing critical famine.

Israeli restrictions, military operations and population displacements are making delivery of humanitarian supplies more difficult.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the situation could deteriorate rapidly. The drop in aid in recent weeks, combined with the arrival of a cold, rainy winter, is worsening living conditions in the overcrowded camps, where people lack food, drinking water and toilets.

More than 500 aid trucks are blocked at the border and access to northern Gaza remains limited.

UN officials report that aid is at its lowest level for months.
