Hurricane Milton batters southeastern United States – in pictures

Hurricane Milton hit central Florida, causing power outages, home destruction and tornadoes. Now Category 1, it still poses strong winds and flash flood risks.

Hurricane Milton tore through central Florida, knocking out power to millions, demolishing homes, and triggering dangerous tornadoes.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported in its latest update that Milton had downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane.

However, it cautioned that strong winds from the storm were now affecting the Florida East Coast, and a flash flood emergency remained in effect for parts of west-central Florida.
