The annual event marks the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1991.

Thousands marched in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Monday to mark Ukraine Independence Day.

The rally is held on August 24, the day in 1991 that the country declared its independence from the Soviet Union.
