While the wet weather in Brussels can dampen the spirits of some, Ireland's Permanent Representation to the EU has found a small silver lining.

While the wet weather in Brussels can dampen the spirits of some, Ireland's Permanent Representation to the European Union has found a small silver lining.

The organisation posted a photograph of a puddle which it said resembled its home nation on Twitter.

It even said the twinkling reflection of a light represented its capital, Dublin.

The representation said on Twitter that the puddle appears everytime it rains in Brussels.

At the time of writing, the post had garnered 394 retweets and 3,582 likes — possibly the most liked tweet from any official foreign ministry in Brussels.

Social media users responded to the post by sharing their own "reminders of home", which included a chicken nugget, a pool of water on a cafeteria tray and a prawn cracker.

Based in the Belgian capital, the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU brings together civil servants from nearly every Irish government department.
