President gives his reaction to calls for the TV star to declare for the 2020 election
Calls for former chat show presenter Oprah Winfey to run for president after her rousing speech at the Golden Globes awards have produced a characteristic response from Donald Trump.
During a meeting with senators to discuss immigration,he told reporters he would beat her in any race for the White House:
"Yeah, I'll beat Oprah. Oprah would be a lot of fun. I know very well. You know, I did one of our last shows. She had Donald Trump. This was before politics. Her last week and she had Donald Trump and my family. It was very nice. I like Oprah. I don't think she's going to run. I don't think she's going to run. I know her very well."
Winfrey's impassioned speech on inequality has sparked a wave of excitement on social media .. with one person using the acronym GOAT to call her the Greatest Of All Time.
Winfrey who is associated with Democratic politics and fundraising is not thought to be considering standing.
And some media commentators have suggested the country might not be ready for another celebrity political novice in the White House.
