Shocking footage shows demonstrators throwing chairs at each other on the streets of Barcelona

Violence broke out in Barcelona on Thursday (October 12) on the sidelines of a pro-unity demonstration organised to coincide with Spain’s national day.

Under the motto “Catalonia yes, Spain too”, the march passed peacefully through one of the city’s main streets, with a festive atmosphere.

However, in the video footage people waving Catalan and Spanish flags can be seen throwing chairs and tables at each other before police arrived to break them up.

It was unclear what sparked the violence around the city’s Placa de Catalunya, or who was involved.
