In a severe blow to the UK manufacturing sector and skills pool BAE Systems is laying off 2000 workers.

Europe’s major arms manufacturer BAE systems is to shed nearly 2000 jobs.

Citing slowing orders for its Typhoon variant of the Eurofighter, and lower US defence spending the British company’s predicament caused Prime Minister Theresa May’s office to announce immediate support for the company, and it will be the subject of a parliamentary debate.


The job losses are part of the cost-cutting strategy decided on by the company’s new boss, Charles Woodburn, but it is a severe blow for the UK’s manufacturing sector.
