Thousands of people have been transferred to rescue shelters in the aftermath of flooding in Houston.

People who lost their homes in the flooding in Houston, Texas have been gathering at a gas station in the North East of the city.

They are waiting to be transferred to shelters in the wake of the flooding.

Shelters across the greater Houston Area have accommodated 5,000 people so far but experts believe there will be 30,000 more to be sheltered.

Floodwaters are expected to rise further in the city with some forecasting another 12 inches of rain on Tuesday.
