It was the nightmare that everybody hoped would never happen: a fire in a tower block that cuts off residents and turns into a inferno.

The fire services were first alerted at 1am on the morning of 14 June. It quickly spread. Many people were advised to stay in their homes until rescued by firefighters.

It is presumed that 79 people were killed.

This footage has been released by the Metropolitan Police to show the aftermath of the fire.
