The men’s sabre team competition in Tbilisi saw the Russians clinch victory over the Italians.

The last bout paired Kamil Ibragimov and Luca Curatoli off against each other in what proved a fitting final.

With Russia leading 42 to 39, the Italian tried to claw his team back into gold medal contention but he continued to trade points with the Russian until eventually Ibragimov hit and sealed the win.

Russia featured again in the women’s epée team finals, this time against the French.

The final bout saw Violetta Kolobova of Russia pitted against Aurianne Mallo of France, the French leading by one point at 38 points to 37 and less than thirty seconds on the clock, before breaking Russian hearts and running out the winners at 42 points to 41.
