The suspect, who has been identified as 39-year-old Kori Ali Muhammad, has been arrested.
He is also wanted in connection with the fatal shooting last week of an unarmed security guard at a motel in Fresno.
The agricultural hub in California’s central valley is around 170 miles southeast of San Francisco.
What happened?
Muhammad is said to have fired at least 16 rounds in less than a minute at four locations in downtown Fresno in the late morning.
County government buildings were placed on lockdown and residents were urged to shelter in place, according to reports.

Fresno’s police chief says the attack does not appear to be connected to terrorism.
Jerry Dyer told reporters the crime appeared to be “solely based on race.”
